Ford Focus ecoboost 1.0 2017

Hi,

can somebody advise where the wet belt is on this car? Is it as time consuming and as costly as I’m seeing?

Recently bought one and worried we may have made a big mistake.. we are already on 66,000 miles.

Well if you take the whole of the engine to bits, after first removing the exhaust down pipe and then the oil sump you'll find two of them right inside the engine. One for timing and one for the oil pump.

Are you fancying doing the job yourself ?

Current rates are between £1200 and £1500

If I remember right, Ford's recommended change interval is 150,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first, so you should have a while to go yet.

In that period most other engines will have needed several belt changes at around £450 a time at main dealer prices.

The important thing is to change oil regularly with the recommended grade and not to use engine flush.

Loads of threads about them on the forum, mostly scary. But FWIW, mine was just changed at 200,000km and 9 years old and was in excellent condition. Wasn't cheap though. Make sure you service the car at least once a year with correct Ford specification oil and don't use engine flushes.

More info about mine here:

The main point is:

ONLY use Ford recommended oil.

NEVER use flush and NEVER use oil additives

Change oil and filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles, at least, more if you want to.

A mechanic on another forum has advised us that it’s not to difficult on the 2017 as it’s a middle belt and not in to difficult of a place like the older focus ecoboost.. does anybody know if this is correct?

As Ian says.......!😀

Afaik it's the same engine all the way through the Mk 3/Mk 3.5 Focus and only changed on the Mk 4 which has the revised ecoboost with chain for the cam but still a wet belt for the oil pump I understand.
