Rear Light Tints

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I’m thinking about tinting my rear lights a dark red colour, has anyone else tinted theirs? My car is red so I’m not sure if it would clash too much. Honest opinions welcome 🙂

I have tinted the rear lights of every car I have owned, ever since seeing, 'Smokey & The Bandit' in the 80s LOL Bar my current Focus, as I may have accidentally grown too old for all that shenanigans now! I'm a fan of this mod, but everyone I have done has always been a 'smoked' tint as all my cars were either silver, or black. I reckon you should do a quick photoshop to see what they'd be like as to be fair, if you do them red, won't be a vast difference as they are mostly red as standard!

My previous Celica GT4

I need to stop reading different threads haha. Got me thinking about mine now. It's just how dark to go and whether to use film or spray. I don't want dark black although my car is Metallic Panther Black.

As they say once black you wont go back LOL

Thanks for the replies guys. I’ve always liked the look too, I’m just not entirely sure if it makes some modern cars look tacky lol. My mate has tinted the lights on his MK5 Escort Cabriolet, but I really like it.

I wasn’t thinking a completely black tint as I’m concerned about the light output in the sunlight as well.

My photoshop skills are non-existent, but I’ve managed to find the same car as mine with tinted lights, what’d you think?

A spray is much better, though obviously much easier to apply when lights are removed from car. You can also easily remove the spray as if you use the proper 'tinting' paint, you can also buy a can of the 'remover' for any accidents!

I was thinking of a film as I could peel it off if I wanted to. Are the films not very good then?

If you're an expert at applying them, maybe OK. Any I've seen have always been wrinkled, and the edges appalling applied. If you paint, you can still easily remove as stated before...

watching the youtube vids spray last approx 12 months where film is 3-5 years

That's hilarious!! I have never had spray 'wear off', though the longest I owned a sprayed car was only 11 years LOL

spray it is then, will whip the clusters off in a few days

Oh I’m far from an expert at wrapping lol. Everything on my car so far, I’ve done myself, but wrapping is a no go for me. I was thinking of paying someone to do it, it’ll be about £100 I think but if it looks good then it’s worth it for me anyway

The hardest thing is judging the ambient temperature, if it's too hot, the paint dries to an awful matt finish, and if too cold, it dries with micro bubbles in it. Like I said, I have done many lights over the decades. Another thing, pay attention to the can when it say a couple of lights coats, you'll always have the temptation to put 5 or 6 coats on to go really dark - that's a mistake as you'll barely see the light through the lens! You can always add a coat should you feel the need, but removing one, well, you can't!

Good idea, I have wrapped a few interior trim items, and they have turned out OK, but when I had the roof wrapped on my last car, it was done by someone who knew what they were doing. The lights are so visible, worth being done properly with a heat gun, and someone that knows how to use it LOL

That’s what I was thinking. I didn’t wanna do a bodge job on something that people are gonna spend a lot of time staring at in traffic lol. Plus once I factor in materials and sourcing a heat gun, I might as well pay someone to do it.

Did you see the photo I found? Not sure what I think. I do like it keeps the glossy look of the lights though as it’s a film.

Paint will also have a glossy look providing it's done properly... Remember to post back with pic when all done!

A very, VERY delayed response, lost my login so I haven’t been on in a long time, but here it is with the tinted lights, as well as a few other extras since I’ve been on :)

I appreciate you may have done something LOL However, you'll find if you're showing off to strangers, a 'before', and 'after' photo tells all! 🤣 Keep up the good work and make sure you don't lose your password again...😄

I'm more impressed that he 'Dry Cleans' his car. Mine just gets washed with water 🤣

What, no Timpson's bashing?

4D plates, Ford Performance plate holders, RallyFlapz, big bore exhaust, rear quarter louvres and wind deflectors are all mods.  Anyone spot any more?

Driver is probably inside debating why they won't cut his nice new 'Ebay flip key' as they spout company policy in that if you didn't buy it from us, we won't cut it 🤣

There's also some sort of (presumably humorous) sticker on the rear window but it's too small to see on here! 🤔

plates are public, you don't need to blur them out, if someone wants a clone plate they just need to walk through a Tesco car park and there's all the plates they could dream off

Hey, are you that bloke I saw yesterday at Tesco with the blue hoodie, and a notebook walking through the car park? 🤣
