2008 CC-3 Roof sensor issues, please help

Featured Replies

Hi all

My 2008 CC-3 roof has stopped working, comes up with the message to say 'roof malfunction, service required'.

Took it into my local Ford dealer, Allen Ford, Warwick who put it through a diagnostic & it showed that sensor 3 had failed. £65 spent on this so not too bad so far. I asked them for a quote to make the repair & they quoted me £163 for the part but are unable to quote any further as they have no idea how to change the sensor so no idea how long it will take.

The service manager has (I hope) spoken to their Coventry branch to see if anyone there can help & he says he's contacted Ford for an idea but it's been 5 weeks now & still nothing. It's 'at the top of his to do board' but I'm not confident that he can help me so turning to you all for any help you can give me. Has anyone got or know how to get a workshop manual or something similar?

Do you have a part number so we can see which one 'sensor 3' is?  That might help us work out how much work needs doing to access it.

Hi Tom

They didn’t want to give the part number out (?) but did in the end, it’s F1521099.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the part number.  They don't generally like giving them out in case you go elsewhere to buy the part or fit it yourself.  Fair enough as they are a business, but after 5 weeks waiting I'd say it's fair game.

So it's the sensor/wiring along the hydraulic ram on the roof itself, next to the screen.

Genuine new part on eBay (used are also available) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393418779327?

That's the easy bit...  Now we need to work out how to access it.

First problem is, we don't know which side the sensor has failed on.  But it does look like the same part for both sides.

Second problem is the access itself.  While Mk2s are my area, I haven't worked on a CC roof.  Personally, I'd try removing the plastic interior trim next to the screen.  It'll either be bolted on, or just push fit clips.  If you can remove it and take a picture of the ram/mechanism that will help decide what else needs doing.  If you're lucky, it'll just unplug and swap over simply.  If you're unlucky, there won't be enough access, and the whole roof mechanism may need removing.

As I say, these aren't really my area, so that's the best advice I can offer so far.  Hopefully another CC owner may be able to confirm or correct any of the above.
