2011 Galaxy Sony CD DAB

Featured Replies

Hi, hope someone can help. My 2011 Galaxy has a Sony CD DAB sound system. It started asking for the key code when the engine started and took the code no problem. This was intermittent. This weekend it did so again but now it takes the code - flashes ‘wait’ then returns to the ‘Enter Keycode _ _ _ _ always showing ‘Attempt 01’ no matter how many times I do this. Is it dead or can it be saved? Many thanks.

yes and no.

Like many units of this type it has either a 'memory capacitor' or a 'memory battery' fitted inside of the radio. They are not intended to be user serviceable and would normally last longer than the life of the car. However, every now and then you get a unit that checks out before time (bit like people).

It can be fixed by dismantling (not disassemble, because that only works for Johnny Five) the radio and replacing the defective component. The problem is the cost would be so high you may as well just get a replacement from a scrapyard or eBay for about £50

Many thanks Unofix (great name).  If I may ask one more question: my Galaxy has a large speaker on the dashboard (sub-woofer) where my much older Galaxy (sold) had a small lift-up storage space.  I asked a local car hi-fi shop about moving-up to an Android unit with touch screen GPS on my current Galaxy but he said they could not connect this speaker to a 'modern' unit.  Are you able to shine any light on this?  Is it best to get a used identical unit to the dead one and apply KISS: 'keep it simple, stupid' (for me that is!), or can new units connect to this large speaker? Thanks again.
