Losing power when accelerating & engine vibrating a lot more than usual

Featured Replies

I have a 63 plate Ford Focus 1.6l EcoBoost. A few weeks ago I was driving home when all of a sudden the car seemed to lose power when I was accelerating and was vibrating a lot more than usual. I put it in to a local garage where they ran a diagnostics check on it, and it came up with "random misfire" The garage checked the ignition coils and spark plugs and sure enough, two of the four coils and spark plugs were bad, so all 4 coils and spark plugs were changed.  He took the car out for a test drive after carrying out the work, but wasn't 100% happy, it still didn't feel right but he couldn't see anything obvious, so he suggests it could be something internal in the engine. I have just got the car back today, so I've been driving around to see how it feels and it is slightly better than before it went in to the garage but there is still a lot of vibration coming from the engine and it is still very sluggish when pulling off. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Oh, and the car was remapped 2 years ago, if this helps.

Was the engine compression tested?

You have confirmed all coils and plugs have been changed, but do we know they are 100% functioning? and for the Plugs are they correctly gapped?

We need a compression test first to confirm the engine is good.

No, It wasn't compression tested. Coils and plugs have definitely been changed for new, he showed me the old ones, the plugs were correctly gapped.

So the next step is to book it in for a compression test? Do you know how much that roughly costs?

@nazsky786 Compression test was carried out today, Cylinders 1,2,4 reading 13.5 bar, cylinder 3 was 6.5 bar, so, yeah, not good at all!
