Sat Nav 2022 updates Fiesta Sync 1.1

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New to this club/forum and I have a question about updating maps for my 2016 Ford Fiesta Zetec with Sync 1.1 and built-in Sat Nav.

It came with the 2016 maps and I got an updated 2019 map from eBay in early 2020 (version J = v9 in the navigation menu). Judging by the fuzzy label I suspect it was a copy, but it works OK and wasn't expensive. However, it is now out of date with changes like new chunks of the A14 having appeared.

My question is, what is the actual latest official map for this car? In the Ford online shop they are offering (but out of stock) seemingly a 2022 map described as a "final update" for £90.47 at https://shop.ford.co.uk/products/tomtom-map-update-for-ford-mfd-satellite-navigation-system-3 but entering my reg no or VIN says it's not compatible even though my car model is listed as a compatible model. The one I got from eBay was also listed as a Ford MFD sync 1.1 (no touchscreen etc) with the same Fiesta model spread up to early 2017 so I think the Ford shop has the compatibility wrong. I tried to get a supposed 2021 (v11) map from eBay last year but it seemed to be really a 2020 map as it was version K (v10) so I returned it.

So, what gives with the "Final Update" and what's the best way to get the latest?

And yes, I like Google Navigation too, but the in-car solution is so convenient - no need to mount, keep the charge level up etc.

Unless you want to pay Ford prices, then the best you are going to get at the moment is V11

Ford satnav maps are always at least a year behind.

Thanks the reply - my problem is I don't know whether to trust these eBay sellers with their "packaging removed to save postage" and other suggestions that you might not get quite what you'd ordered after my experience with a 2021 card that was 2020 maps. I guess you pays your money and takes your choice. I even found a cheap 2022 offering from China from AliExpress!

I was also concerned the Ford shop listed it as a Final Update. I guess cars with this Sync 1.1 MFD card stopped being sold as new in 2017 which is 5 years ago so whenever I do get this 2022 map it may well be the last which is a tad disappointing particularly for future resale of the car.

the eBay one will probably be just fine, but the AliExpress from China I'd not be so sure of.

Ford may well be saying 2022 is the final maps, but since they are using TomTom maps I'm sure other map updates will continue.

Have to agree with you on the AliExpress but your reply intrigues me - I assumed the eBay offerings were mostly clones of official cards but is there a way to roll your own from TomTom map data for Fords with Sync 1.1? I didn't there was so they would stop when Ford stop?

I've never tried to do it but I understand those with a bit know how (eBay cards) are often a clone of the latest TomTom maps.
