Air Con not really cold focus mk4

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a brand new Focus ST-line mild hybrid. Just noticed recently the air con isn't really that cold. Previous cars I've had the air is really freezing cold but in this focus, it's just slightly cool, like it's just blowing the outside air around and not cooling it. Is this normal in the MK4 focus or should it be really cold? Might need a trip back to the dealer unless it's something really simple. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Should be cold. Take it back. I had a brand new fiesta turn up with a damaged seal and it had lost the gas in transit.

Normally you can hear the compressor kick in on any other cars I've had but I can't hear that on this focus. Have checked Fuses marked as air con but all ok.

Just to check, the AC button is lit up?  And you're not driving in Eco mode?

Best test will be to put the temp dial as cold as possible (guessing no climate on the ST Line?) with the engine running for a few minutes and the blowers directed to face only.  You should then get an icy blast through the face vents.  If it doesn't feel fridge-cold, it's probably faulty as Alex said.

*Edit - Just realised 'Brand New' might be a facelift with Sync4 if you're one of the lucky few that has received them...if so the above paragraph won't apply.

Mine doesnt feel "fridge cold" but is at 5 degrees which i believe is standard.

5 degrees at the vents is fine, that should feel 'icy' leaving the vents.  Much lower than that and the evaporator would start to ice up.  Just to clarify, it won't make the whole interior feel fridge cold.

Been thinking that could this be being disabled by the battery management when the voltage drops below what it expects. I don't do many long runs in the car. I charged the battery overnight and it does seem to be properly cold again so it must be one of the things the battery management disables. Just to clarify, I wasn't using eco mode, it isn't a facelifted focus and the AC was on full, with the light illuminated. The passenger door unlock/lock function also wasn't working and is again now. I have a dash cam wired to be permanently live so I guess I'll have to disable it when I park at home overnight in case it is draining the battery a bit also

Do you have the Fordpass app?  If so, you should get a 'deep sleep' message if the battery is dropping that low.
