Diesel/Adblue filling points - another silly design "feature"

Featured Replies

This is on my Focus 4 ecoblue but it probably applies to other fords as well ...

So - the filler holes for the Diesel and the Adblue are next to each other, under the same flap. Literall a couple of inches away from each other.

The fuel filler doesn't have a separate cap to unscrew (a featrure that I find a nuisance anyway 'cos the spring loaded flap makes manouvering the nozzle to prevent drips awkward)

The adblue cap does - so far so good, So you fill up the adblue tank from a canister, the nozzle for this usually springs up as its taken out and you get a few drips splashed about. All OK so far - except

Come along later and the adblue drips have dried up leaving a white residue - some of which finds itself around the bottom edge of the spring-loaded fuel flap which is recessed! Very fiddly to clean-off without pushing some residue into the fuel tank!

A normal screw-on filler cap wouldn't present such a problem...

Give it a good shake prior to pulling out 😮

And diesels used to be so simple.........

I'm a fan of the Ford Easy Fuel system generally, but I agree that in this case, with the proximity of the adblue filler, it sounds as if a filler cap for the derv would be a good idea. I understand that even a few drops of adblue in derv is seriously bad news.

Might put clingfilm over the dam thing next time I top up!

Wipe any drips up before you close the cap.

Hardly a design flaw, more user related.
