Cloned registration number

Featured Replies

My Mondeo has had it's number plate cloned and DVLA have now issued me with a new registration number and a new logbook. However the new number is not recognised on any database that I use to identify the vehicle model including Ford's database. I could obviously input the information manually but it's a pain especially when getting insurance quotes , ordering car parts etc etc. I have tried googling for an answer but no luck. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It can take over a year for a new registration (or replacement registration) to filter through to all data bases. It happens each time I change registration numbers for my personalised registration. Some data bases just never seem to get up dated, the Ford ETIS site still shows my number plate as A Galaxy which I haven't had for 12 years. The plate was transferred to a Kuga which I haven't had for 4 years.

I have a personalised plate and the Ford Etis site doesn't recognise it so I use the original. Most websitse will take my new reg number now (It took a while) but if it doesn't then I use the original there too.

Can you not search for parts etc with original plate?

If you're using Ford databases, you should be able to use the VIN.  Using the old reg to get parts might be an easy option, as above.

Insurance is the main problem though.  The reg obviously needs to be correct for that.  I also wonder if an old cloned reg shows on the insurance database, as with a written off reg for example, and could alter the price for quotes.
