mk 3.5 1.5tdci auxillary belt

Featured Replies

just had the  car mot,ed and a service , on the health check they said the aux belt is worn , and the rear trailing arm bushes where also worn , no advisories on the test for the rear trailing arms is the aux belt just a cosumable item , and something i could diy ?  help appresiated , many thanks.

Aux belt could be considered a consumable.  It is easy to change yourself with a sprung tensioner on this engine.  Only drives the alternator and AC compressor so a short run too.

It will need to be removed (and usually then replaced) when the cambelt is replaced, so if you're considering a cambelt replacement in the near future, it may be worth just waiting for that.  Personally, I'd have a look & see how bad the cracking is on the belt to decide how urgent replacement might be.

Where was the service & MOT done?  Some garages don't 'advise' things as a bit of a favour to keep your MOT history clean, especially if they're expecting you to have them replace the item asap.  But it could also be a bit of ar*e covering on the service.
