New Automatic Transmission

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. First post alert.

I have a 2012 Focus Estate Automatic with Powershift gearbox

Driving home the other day, and car just revved and wouldnt go into second. A warning then came on the dashboard saying transmission overheating (I think) and to stop

Been told by a garage that it needs a dual clutch and TCM. Been quoted £2,800. Does anyone know if that sounds about right?

Thank you

There's some other posts on here regarding powershift fixes.

The main advice I can give, hopefully you'll listen, is BEFORE you spend money on a TCM or transmission get an auto electrician to check for any broken wires from the transmission to the TCM and from the TCM to the PCM, this is quite common and if a CAN COMMs cable breaks it will cause all kinds of problems, like you are having.

Yes, TCMs can go down, but it's more common to get broken wires.

The main culprit tends to be the large multi-plug connector in the LH front wheel arch.

It's very rare for the TCM AND the transmission to die at exactly the same time, though very easy to bill you for both

Sounds about wrong to me !!

Gearbox service, transmission fluid change 'Yes' Check for broken wires on inside the TCM connector plug 'Yes' Use FORScan to check for any DTC's and also to do TCM reset/relearn 'Yes'

Replace gearbox 'No'. Replace TCM 'No'. Replace dual clutch 'unlikely'

Another one not listening I think
