MTX75 Gearbox Question

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I’ve tried asking this in other forums with no success, so hoping a Focus expert can help with what I think is a Focus question although it actually relates to a Mk1 Transit Connect (shared platform with Mk1 Focus).  So this Connect van (1.8 tdci) had a gearbox problem so I got a replacement box off a 2005 Focus mk2 1.8 tdci, as I understand they are the same apart from final drive ratio.  I got the replacement box bolted up to the engine and then discovered that the bolt spacing on the top mounting bracket is different- and I can’t use the Focus Mk2 bracket as it isn’t as tall as the Focus mk1/Connect mk1 bracket - see attached photos showing the hole misalignment with the Mk1 bracket on situ on the Mk2 gearbox, the difference in hole spacing, and the difference in bracket height.  Has anyone come across this and found a solution? Thanks

Unless I have misunderstood, can’t you use the focus bracket with a longer bolt and big spacer to take into account different height of bracket? Don’t know what might be suitable as spacer. I am thinking something like the spacers you get on a motorbike back wheel spindle. Has that focus one got a threaded hole as opposed to fixed stud in transit bracket

Why not just cut the top section off the original bracket and weld it on to the top of the new bracket
