Help needed..semi automatic gearbox

Featured Replies

I've got a 2007 Transit based motorhome with the push button semi automatic gearbox. It's got a very occasional fault with crunching the gears after a long motorway run when changing down from 5th to 4th as it decelerates to leave the motorway. Other than that it works perfectly but I'm worried I might be doing more damage or that it will totally break if I ignore it. The biggest problem I am finding at the moment is finding a garage / mechanic to actually look at it. Nobody even the main dealer I went to seemed to know anything about this type of gearbox. Apart from any advice on what the potential problem might be, can anyone suggest someone that might be able to fix this kind of gearbox. I'm from Birmingham so Midlands based would be ideal, but basically anywhere in the country would probably be ok, as could just combine it with a trip away. I did read somewhere that this was often caused by a faulty clutch slave cylinder, which was a weak point when originally built but replacement parts rectified this. It has only done 32,000 miles and been fully serviced. Thanks for any help you may be able to give

To be honest like most on this forum I expect,  I've never come across such a gearbox. When, if ever was it last serviced ? for example the transmission fluid and filter changed.

@DaveT70  might be able to offer some advice if he sees this post

Hi, you need to explain exactly the operation and spec of the gearbox.

It sounds to me, with you saying push button, that it is a conventional manual with a semi automatic clutch conversion (disability modification)

Please let us know and we'll advise
