Does the mk 2.5 1.6 tdci have a MAF sensor?

Featured Replies

I get a juddering and thought maybe cleaning the maf would fix this but can’t find any videos online

What makes you suspect the MAF sensor ?

Have you used FORScan to read the DTC's ?

Yes it does.  Same part on the Mk3 as well.  (I bought a genuine new one silly cheap a few months before selling my Mk2.5...swapped it into the Mk3 instead of letting it go!)

I've never fixed a MAF problem by cleaning one so far.  They clean themselves (same as a pyrolytic oven).  Once they're knackered, they usually need replacing.  They generally don't cause a judder either, just a lack of power.  Juddering is more likely to be injectors, would get diags on it as suggested above.

Thanks. The judder is weired and doesn’t do it all the time. Usually is jerky/juddery when coLd but it had been juddering when warm and driving a long, as if it’s running out of fuel

When was the fuel filter last changed?

Fairly recently and did it before it was changed. Has done it for years when cold and I pull away in first, very jerky. But only recently that I noticed started doing it when driving at a steady speed. That’s why I thought something maybe needs a clean (throttle body) etc?

Juddery pull away in 1st is caused by the rubbish EGR mapping on these.  Nothing you can do to fix that (except a remap!).  If the same judder is now happening when warm, I'd suspect the EGR itself, as well as the injectors.  Best thing to do is get Forscan on it before wasting time & money on anything else.

So have they always been juddery from new in 1st or just when they get older?

Use it to monitor, fuel pressure, EGR, MAF

Well I bought mine at 46k and it was like that, but I'm fairly sure it was there from new.  If you can find any old press reviews of them, especially the Econetic versions, they complain about the poor pull away.   And having to give it extra revs to pull away more smoothly, defeating the object of buying the low emissions 1.6 engine in the first place!  I think it was only an issue on the facelift though, as they tweaked the mapping to get into the £30 tax band (or free for Econetic).

If also does it in neutral though when I rev, feels like a missfire but that was only when it’s cold and didn’t always do it. Strange.

If you think there's a genuine fault, it really would be best to get Forscan on it.  If there are no fault codes then it's not likely to be anything major, but you can watch live data to work out what's happening when the judder/misfire occurs.
