Expedition completely bizarre electrical issues

Featured Replies

I haven’t posted on here in a bit, probably gone through half a dozen cars since the last post.

I’ve got a 2007 Expedition EL (extended length) with one of the worst engines ever made, the 300 horsepower, 3 valve (Triton) 5.4 liter, 330 cubic inch V8 from hell.

This beast weighs in at 6,000 pounds without passengers, stands just under 6.5 feet tall, 18 feet long and is 6.5 feet wide.

The engine has actually been pretty reliable, with 300,000 miles on it it’s still running strong.   The computer on the other hand… I think it drinks the good liquor or something.

The air conditioning works when it’s first started or when I’m doing 70 MPH, but for idling around the city the air conditioner stops working after about 20 minutes.  This ancient body on frame design uses what appears to be an old fashioned, belt driven 6000 CFM clutch fan.  Turns out the clutch fan is actually computer controlled and the computer in my Ford has decided that the fan only needs to run when the engine is cold.

Some quick work with a jumper and the fan now turns on and stays on.
