Galaxy tdci mk3 dpf help!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Can someone please help me with my dpf replacement?

Firstly, I have ordered a new dpf from the bay. It’s almost surely the wrong one.
I’ve added some photos.

photo 1 is what I received.
the other photos show what’s on the car…as you can see, the first pic shows the connection to the turbo (I think), which is curved. The next one shows the box. The last one shows a flexi part.

none of these are on the part I received.

Does anyone know the correct part I need? Or how I can find it?

thanks

Yep, definitely the wrong part.  What is the exact year & engine spec of your Galaxy?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay.

When I put the reg into Autodoc, my vehicle comes up as…

Ford Galaxy mk2 (WA6) 2.0 tdci (103 KW/140 PS) (05.2006 - 06.2015)

but it doesn’t look like a mk2. Maybe a facelift model. I thought it was mk3

Ok.  If you PM me the reg I'll double check which engine it is.  Wouldn't rely on Autodoc's database.

The cat & DPF is separate on these though (or at least some of them).  The part you were sent is the DPF (although possibly not the correct one).  The part you've pictured coming straight off the turbo is the cat.

Ah no way! Thanks mate!

Well the MOT garage said the DPF has been tampered with so I need a new one. I went under the car and it looks like the bit coming from the turbo has marks on from being cut and welded back, but maybe I’m wrong. I’ll go check again now.

Reg is EO09DMZ. I can get the vin as well if any help.

Just had another look and there is no DPF. No wonder I got mixed up.

The cat comes from the turbo and then it’s a straight pipe all the way to the back box. I’ll try add a pic now. Photo shows from back to front.F0895AA3-51D3-4224-9501-91A118934A4C.thumb.jpeg.54853f66047b548c291d1c35d108b990.jpeg

Thanks for that, as you say, no wonder you're confused!

For future reference your engine is the 143ps version - 2.0L Duratorq-TDCi (143PS) - DW

The cat has probably been smashed out...so you'll need a new cat to pass MOT under the new regs.  However, to add to the confusion, not all of these had a DPF as well as the cat!!  There are 2 choices on the parts diagrams.  So now we have to work out whether yours originally had a DPF or not.

If we assume yours didn't come with a DPF, then the cat part number is 1666089

Cheapest one from a quick ebay search is this one, though you'll have to compare it carefully or contact the seller to be sure of correct fitment - EEC FR6071T CATALYTIC CONVERTER | eBay

Ok thanks mate.

So maybe the MOT garage mistakenly wrote DPF instead of cat?

Failure certificate says:

Exhaust particulate filter obviously defective (dpf filter been tampered) [8.2.2.1(a)]

MOT tester probably just assumed it's a DPF...  (I mean, both of us did the same lol)

So, yes, that is wrong.  You can go back and explain to him that it doesn't have a DPF if you like.

However there is another failure for 'emissions system tampering' (not those exact words) which is sort of a cover all failure which he could fail it for instead.

Totally up to you whether you want to take it up with the garage or not.

Yeah I better go see him first. I know the guy anyway. He’s sound.

I’ll show him both diagrams you sent.

I don't think there'll be a DPF on yours, but the best way is to look underneath and double check.

There is an outstanding recall for that reg though, so you may want to contact your local Ford dealer about that.

Where did you check?  EGR could cause a judder, but so can many other parts.  Might be best to start another thread for that fault.

Thanks for your help on this mate.

Got the garage to fit the cat. It was actually a cat and not dpf.

Just wondered…
it looks like the other guy has the same model as me, just a couple of years older. How come that’s come up for recall, but mine didn’t?
Whats the site you used to check?

cheers

Thanks for the update on the cat!

The site is Ford's own database, ETIS.  Shows engine specifics, fitted options, recalls and service schedules.  However, the site is currently being decommissioned, and those functions are all being moved to a site which can only be accessed by dealers unfortunately.

I don't know much about Galaxy recalls (unlike Fiesta & Focus) so maybe it's an old recall and yours had been done before you bought it, or maybe your model wasn't affected if there was only a small batch of faulty parts.  Either way, I've just double checked your reg and there's still no outstanding recalls showing for yours.

The recall is for the Takata airbag. My 2007 Galaxy had a new drivers airbag about 6 months ago as part of the recall. Doubled the value of the car! I think Ford tried to argue that they should not have to replace airbags on older vehicles but they have been told they have to. Just try not to have a head on crash until its replaced.
