Anti-Syphon Device?

Featured Replies

Just a thought - given the fact that the fuel filler flap on my Ford doesn't lock, is there an anti-syphon device in the filler neck of modern Fords (UK based)? Or, indeed, in the Adblue filler?

Definitely on the fuel tank there is. Not sure about adblue. If someone really wants your fuel though they could just drill the tank.

Can't imagine many people are syphoning Adblue?  That's something you really don't want in your mouth!!

That's hard to believe. My ancient Mk2 flap locks, wonder if leaving out this useful function was a simple cost saving  issue?

No it’s because it has the easy fuel system instead. You need the “shewee” to open the valve anyway.

You’re ok with petrol or diesel though?

Me personally, I'd take a hand pump if I was stealing fuel...

But yeah, given the choice, petrol or diesel would still be preferable to AdBlue.

Why? It’s 2/3rds water.

The 2/3 water isn't the issue, it's the other 1/3 LOL

Is that the 1/3 that is non toxic compared to the full 100% of petrol that is toxic?

Try this experiment, get a 100ml beaker, fill 66ml with water, and the rest 33ml with H2SO4 (hydrochloric acid). Now taking it carefully in your hand, only drink the safe water 🤣

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

What’s hydrochloride acid got to do with adblue?

Adblue is urea, main constituent of urine (other than water)

The thought of it is probably worse than it would do to you, but I wouldn’t recommend trying.

Absolutely nothing! I was illustrating that saying 2/3rd of a solution is harmless is folly if you can't separate it out from the mixed solution!

But the whole solution of adblue is non toxic, so someone saying they would go for the mouthful of petrol over adblue is stupid.
