2021 ford puma, transmission limited function error.

Featured Replies

Hello,

My sister has a 2021 ford puma with an automatic transmission.

2 months ago will driving she experienced  juddering and the engine appeared to be free revving. A message then appeared on the dashboard "transmission limited function". She then turned the engine off and then on again a few times and the issue went away.

She has now experienced the same thing again yesterday for the 2nd time. It is really strange as it has only happened twice.

I know that this was a massive issue worldwide with ford powershift transmissions made between 2012 and 2016 I think, but I assumed that this would no longer be an issue with fords new double clutch gearboxes.

Has anyone experienced (or heard of) this issue with the latest batch of ford transmissions please? Her car is only a year old.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Sean

Hello.

The Car was taken to ford yesterday. However they called the day before to say they noticed that there was a transmission issue (they have an Internet connection to the cars computer I think) and would diagnose it.

Ford called my sister yesterday afternoon to say that a technician needed to look at the gearbox and need to keep the car over night Today, they say all is fine and the car can be collected tomorrow??

I don't think the issue has been fix  and am worried it will return. Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Sean

It could just be a known software issue that would be rectified once they update the transmission software.

It could also have been a flat battery.

If it happens again, get it straight back in.

You could do with setting up FORscan TBH and get a decent lead. The next time it happens, if it does, plug in and read the codes. Then you'll have an idea of what the fault is and make sure the dealer fixes it correctly.

Just for a quick history lesson,

The new Fiesta/Puma/Focus "Powershift" transmission is no longer the Ford transmission, I believe it's the Renault/Nissan unit.

But, the modules are still Ford rubbish, as it the wiring systems and the vast majority of issues with the old Powershifts were modules going down and/or broken COMMs wiring.

Thank you so much for the replies and the information Dave and unofix.

I'll get a scan tool and will keep an eye on it.

We picked up the car this morning and they said they have sorted the issue, cleared the error codes and to call them if it returns.

Thanks again. 😊
