Ford Focus MK2 digital aerial

Featured Replies

I fitted an after market digital aerial to my ford focus mk2 at the front of the car. However the signal is not great on DAB or FM. I have since read that due to the curvature of the roof the digital aerials are not very good. I have seen similar roof shaped cars with what looked like dab airals on the rear, would placing it at the rear improve the signal.

Thanks

Speaking as an ex-radar engineer I say without hesitation what ever the issue is with your radio / aerial it is most definitely not the curvature of the roof. Yes in an ideal world the ground plane would be flat, but for the purposes of a radio aerial the difference it will make to the signal strength will only be about 0.1dB.

Things to check are:

(a) Assuming you fitted the aerial through a hole in the roof, did you clean off any paint or rust on the inside to make sure the aerial has a good earth to the body ?

(b) Is the digital aerial a good quality unit ?

(c) Is there a aerial pre-amp unit fitted and is it working?

(d) Is the aerial cable making a good connection at both ends, are the plugs fitted correctly?
