will have a look at that.

The other option, although a little more expensive, would be THIS one. Same reputable source, tried and tested by many, but this one is what you would call 'future proof'. It has the newest tech and is faster, it's also the one that Forscan recommend now.

The one in the link above is absolutely fine too, I've never had any problems using either.

thank you

i dont have any codes that popped up, just needed to find out which one to get so i can get ready to get it.

If you are new to FORScan then it would be a good Idea to have a read at this user guide before you get set up. There is also a How to section for more advanced things on the FORScan site.

Also see the Forscan officially recommended leads and devices on this page:

The new all singing and dancing 'vLinker FS' cable for £34 is the future proof lead for FORScan. Just remember nothing is ever future proof.

On vehicles 2013 and older there is no benefit to be gained using the vLinker FS cable other than the auto switching between MS and HS canbus.

A good quality ELM327(modified) cable for £20 will do everything you could need on an older car. You can even get them with auto switching for £25, but if you are thinking of doing that, then you may as well buy the vLinker FS cable.

many thanks again

i have a spare laptop and all i want to do is connecting the laptop to my car and check any codes and maybe change some codes like hi-jack and auto lock.

i will buy the first link and second link and i should be good to go?

You only need one lead.

hello unofix,

you dont happen to know if the modified one will work on a mk3.5 do you?

reason i am asking is because my brother in law is swapping his steering wheel for one with cruise control and i have read that it will need programming after.

Yes. 👍

Update:

My brother in law bought the modified elm327 and we used my mini laptop and was straight forward, he was very happy that we activated the cruise control. With an added bonus he told me that he didn't want the elm327 anymore and gave it me.

you don't need to use an archaic bit of rubbish - the benefits having a more stable, more capable and more compatible one... isn't worth the few pennies cheaper fighting a cable that should have been in a skip 1O years ago

after all they are still finding bugs and comms needs for the current auto-switching cables by vlinker and ODBLink

BOTH just had new firmware's in the last month and last just week, forscan amended their tool to work around a flaw in the behaviour of the best vlinker cable....
