What Three words

Featured Replies

I am trying to use the W3W App via my Sync 3 (via USB cable and iPhone) but cannot get the App on the Media Screen. I have followed the instructions via W3W and on contacting them they are not much use.

There is a list of Apps on the Customise section (via Settings/General/Car Play/SYNC3/Customise) but the W3W App is not listed to be able to transfer to the Sync 3 Media screen.

Any help would be gladly received.

I'm curious on how you plan to 'use' the app? I've had it installed on my phone for over a year, and apart from amazing novelty value, can see no practical use at all! Anywhere I've ever wanted to go, has a postcode which my SatNav can more than cope with...

Stephen - Post Codes can be a bit vague. I visit a lot of football grounds and although the SATNAV has taken me close I have on occasions been quite a way from the actual location, and if it wasn't for floodlights I may have never found the ground without asking. As W3W is a 3m square location it's much more accurate.

I know that, but do football grounds actually put w3w on their web site?

Before you set off you can look at the map on their W3W website, select a square where you want to go and use the words from that.

I'll start by saying I don't know the answer.

I note you say that you have an iPhone and since the Ford Sync3 system is android then do you not need to install Apple Car Player first ?

Or have you already done that ?

I can tell you don't live in a semi-rural road where the houses only have names and not numbers, as I used to! Would have been a godsend to me and to delivery drivers.

Especially if Amazon put W3W on their address labels! Oh, what do you mean, they don't?? LOL

Wouldn't that be reliant on the customer placing the order getting the 3 words correct ?

We used to use the W3W for locating excavations for Severn Trent water when it was in the middle of the Derbyshire Dale's with no street names or in fields and it became apparent there was quite some glitches in the system itself, ie using the same or very similar words in the same pattern so it got removed from the system altogether.

Yes.  IBut surely, if you can cope with ordering online from Amazon you'd easily be able to find which 3 words you are living at.  It certainly beats "the house with the big red garage door, next door but one from the big half-timbered tudor house (on the LHS as you look at it)" which is what I usually ended up quoting.

Like all computer systems, you have to spell the words correctly and enter them in the correct order 😉

Yes and thats the issue.  Some people just can't spell and take great pleasure in putting in the wrong information so it's easier all round to follow the the blue arrows on the ground in Isolated locations.

I hate to admit it, but Amazon have the best logistics in the business. If they could streamline their delivery system by even 1%, they'd be all over it. Obviously W3W are a non runner for them, otherwise they'd have introduced it globally years ago...

In addition, it's often tough enough to get customers to enter a correct postcode, if they got one of their 3 words wrong, the package could end up in the middle of a jungle! At least a postcode will get it, 'in the area'.

Wouldn't it be fun if you could pick the three words for the square outside your own front door

For a solicitors front door "Richard Turpin Inside" *

For a hospital A&E  "Come Back Tomorrow"

Ford service department "Robbery In Progress"

The post office "Sloths At Work"

 * and why Richard and not D....... ? you will have to ask the Censors
