Focus mk4 Rear Dashcam DAB interference?

Featured Replies

I'm in the market for a dashcam and before I buy I am trying to figure out any if there is going to be an issue mounting a rear camera when it comes to DAB radio signal?

In my research I've heard lots of issues with people losing dab signal in other cars and in other models of ford but nothing to concrete about mine (Focus mk4).

I believe the DAB antenna on the focus mk4 is external and is therefore not as susceptible to DAB interference.

Can anyone put my mind at ease?

Hello Tom, yes I can confirm that fitting a rear dashcam in the wrong place on a Focus Mk4 will kill the DAB radio stone dead !!

The heated rear window is used as the Areial for the DAB and mounting the rear dashcam on the glass disrupts the DAB signal and means the radio won't pick up those stations anymore.

However, the problem is easy overcome by mounting the rear dashcam on the plastic trim (inside) at the top of the tailgate as far back from the rear window as possible. It does not affect the picture in the slightest and everything works as it should.

When running the rear dashcam cable to the back of the car, if possible do it on the drivers side of the head lining to keep it away from the radio aerial cable which runs through the head lining on the passenger side.

Use Fuse number 3 (10 Amp) - [Parking assist control module] for the dashcam

Don’t run the cables for the rear cam along the edge of the headliner there are curtain airbags there! I ran mine along the passengers side floor.

Also my cam is stuck to the rear window and my dab works fine . I do have the suppression magnets attached both ends.

Thanks very much both of you! From what you have both said it will either work fine or it won't but there's a way around it. I'll figure out which one is applicable to my situation when I have the kit in hand. @unofixthose pictures are especially useful thankyou for adding then!

I initially had a Nextbase front and rear system fitted at Halfords, but nothing the fitter did  could get DAB to work.  We then swapped to a Blackvue system and any DAB problems have all but disappeared.

Put the dash cam wire in some conduit if you can as well 👍
