Could anyone advise on optimum gear/speed for lowest petrol consumption

    Keep the revs as low as possible, usually means getting into 5th gear ASAP, and just drive smoothly, no sudden acceleration, or harsh braking, look ahead on the road, and predict your driving.

    As Stephan said. It's the looking  ahead I would emphasize most. So many don't and end up slamming brakes on then accelerating hard after. Very rare I have to stop at roundabouts if you time it right.let the car slow down on its own within reason if you can without braking. I think Folk on this forum tend not to believe my fuel consumtion rates I've posted up at times. Regularly match and exceed official fuel consumption figures on any car I've owned. Still get to destination pretty much the same time as rushing.
