Red light on dash

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Ford Focus Tdi mk2.

Recently a red light started to appear between the speedo and rev counter. It stays on for about 2 seconds then goes off. It has now become more frequent, and today came on 8 times in a 15 mile journey. I’ve not noticed any difference in the car, does anyone have any ideas what this might be. Thanks I’m advance

circle? square? Letter? symbol?

Even better if you can post a photo.

Possibly a red " I " as in information sign that there may be a issue, get its codes read.

If it's the immobiliser light then suspect the usual cluster wiring fault

It’s a solid red light, usually flashed when the car is off for the immobiliser. Any ideas of a fix, or issues that not fixing it will cause

As Dave has said, if it's the immobiliser warning then it's probably time to get all the solder joints on your instrument cluster re-soldered.

I’ve managed to check the code and the error code is U1900-20, has anyone had issues with this

That's a very generic code. Kind of relates to steering but can be caused by other canbus faults.

Did you use a code reader to get that DTC ?

If you can use FORScan then it will probably give more information and possibly other DTC's

Reading that, would confirm in my mind that the fault is intermittent loss of Canbus comm's most probably the solder joints on the instrument cluster.

Yep, CANBUS issues.

It will only get worse.

Search "Focus MK2 Instrument Cluster Repair" on Ebay, there are places that do a quick turn around on the repair, takes about two days, you'll have to do without car whilst it's away, obviously.

Don't over pay for the repair, it shouldn't cost you any more than about £75
