failed mot on absorber and front brake pads

Featured Replies

hi guys

i need some rear absorber and front disc brake pads just wondering which ones you would recommend please?

many thanks

Partly depends how long you think you might have the car and mileage. And what suppliers you have near you or if you have time to wait for post to arrive.  If it was me I would buy the cheapest.    I assume rear absorber means shock absorber.   Interestingly the effectiveness of shock absorbers has been removed from mot test in the last few years.  It’s just a visual look now to see if it leaks. I assume that’s because of the difficulty of specifying how.  On an old car you could jump on the chrome bumper.  Not so easy on modern cars

apologies, its an advisories, on the mot it says - nearside rear shock absorber poor. when i asked the guy, he said it as quite easy to lift.

i have a shop near me called euro car parts and they have these in stock:

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/anschler-shock-absorber-635590301

but that looks like its only for one so it would be around£ £70 for 2. you said to get cheapest so i have found these on ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171177727511?fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Plat_Gen%3AMK+II|Model%3AFocus&hash=item27dafcd617:g:RZUAAOSwQwFb9Bmk&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAABABfBywinT%2BNjcJ6HvwTVsUMWrbcF%2BV1P5Y490mMidLjcWvpRvUi4Y%2FjSJPkHwh%2FxVMo%2F8ZL2HNcLNme1iDZws%2BjSsZLuL9m9sY%2Fx5T7AQdUOLnXWycR3nzRMpjL1xz1akaov1mwig7KhULsUu0IE7PR3csGpqsFPtuEwnGDxP%2FwoYyKflzX%2Bcm1JldA4IXdv96C2I63v4gXY5O%2BVQwGp3YVNIX1gz7fW8eQOKRYyuzVhnGVi8g5jPjAoss5SSmK8CEP7ZDe1%2B%2FHrAWGcAwFrDGLxsIE5T4JsrUrpIL%2BvYJjNU8xLPiDDSfPxizkWSR1Oz4NLDnYVdIMkBFj479ncoU0%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8aL_bDgYA

No problem.  Those would do, though I can see quite a few for £30-£35 the pair if you want two.  One example here.

FORD FOCUS MK2 2004-2011 & C-MAX REAR SHOCKS SHOCK ABSORBERS X2 | eBay

Personally I'd rather buy a brand I'd heard of, but that totally contradicts Isetta's 'cheapest available' option, so it's your decision at the end of the day.

Could spend ages trawling the net for the best prices for each brand but I don't have time for that unfortunately.  (It's something I enjoy when sourcing my own parts lol.)  Just from a quick ebay search I can see Meyle here for £32 each...so twice the cost, but they do have a 5 year warranty.

MEYLE Shock Absorber Damper 726 725 0009 Rear FOR Focus C-Max Genuine Top German | eBay

Mintex should be good for brake pads.  Pads are a bit more difficult to choose than shocks though.  There's more than one shape of pad used on the Mk2, depending on engine, and possibly year.

ahh forgot i have something coming out of my bank in few days so i have ordered this one what you linked for 2 instead.

I know I said I’d get the cheapest but now you’ve told me they are advisories I wouldn’t do them at all right now. But I would keep on eye on those bits and replace when necessary.

ECP, GSF, Jayar, Mister-auto etc should pick up the pads from your reg.  But even they are not always right, the only surefire test is to check the new one against an old one before fitting.

ok guys, i am doing the rear absorber tomorrow.

do you all use torque wrench to tighten the nut at the top of the strut and the bolt at the bottom or just tighten them with a wrench the best i can?

wrench

No need to use American tools, a good old British spanner will do a better job.

Top nut setting is FT and the bottom nut is VFT according to the bodgit and scarper manual. 😂
