Fiesta 2013 ABS module fault / sticky brakes

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 2013 Fiesta / 1.0/ 74kW/ 5M and my front right and possibly rear left brake (hard to tell) are not releasing properly. The dealership informed me that ABS module is the cause and needs to be replaced. However, the diagnostics does not show any fault code, they told me the hydraulics part is the problem as it does not release the brake properly. I tried disabling hill assist and it seems it got a little bit better. As the car is 9 years old, even the technican at the dealership recommended getting a used one, as the ABS module is very expensive.

I have found this, which might be the same problem: https://www.ecutesting.com/common-faults/ford/brakes-locking-fiesta-b-max-and-transit/

Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there anything that can be done apart from replacing ABS module?

I don't know what you are using to read the DTC's but if it is not FORScan then it is normal you won't see any Ford specific codes if you are using a generic code reader.

If the ABS unit is faulty then you are better to send your own unit away for refurbishment. Replacing the ABS unit with a second had one can bring it's own problems as they need to be programmed which requires specialist equipment.

Ford dealer did the diagnostics

I don’t know what is available in your country. In uk a lot of people on this forum including me buy a elm327 code reader from tunnel rat electronics for about 20 gbp .  Forscan software is free of charge for windows and about 6 gbp for Apple / android. Compared to paying a garage to read codes it is a bargain.

I get your point, but reading the code was not the sole reason why I went to the garage.

I would be checking that you haven't just got seized calipers first

  • 1 year later...

So what did you end up doing to fix it?
