Getting car insurance quotes - soul destroying!!

Odd that it's a 'loyalty' discount that can be freely transferred to all insurers LOL Still, I totally agree the whole industry is riddled with anomalies with the sheer aim of scr*wing us out of more money...

From what I've read in the local press of the recent court reports, it seems that having no insurance only merits a lesser fee than insurance itself. Not that I'm condoning it at all but wheres the deterrent in 6pts and £180 fine. Half of em dont even have a licence.

One thing it does show insurers is that you’ve probably been driving. You could have passed your test 20 years ago and then never driven again. Someone with 15 years NCB shows they’ve been driving in that time compared to someone who has nothing. Especially as you can protect your NCB now.

But obviously they’re not going to give you that discount twice if they don’t have to so it’s per policy.

I think that’s why some insurers will give you a portion of your NCB for a second policy. Having NCB on one policy should mean you are lower risk for a the second policy. But they don’t all do that.

I know Privilege used to. But again it’s always going to be something you can’t do online.

Bugger, just did an online quote with Adrian Flux, and on the end of the usual million questions, hit the 'get quote' button. Then came the screen that, 'thank you, we will call you shortly'!! Aarrrggghhhh... I don't want a friggin' call! Why can't they be upfront and honest and say we do not do online quotes...

Just an update on Adrian Flux, just got an email through with a quote, and I must confess it is very competitive! I'll be calling them next week to follow up and see if following advice here, they can 'mirror' a NCB on my mums old car so effectively I can have a 2 x car policy...

I think, 'Dan' is actually a Bot! LOL He always appears to introduce his company, but in all my years here, I've never seen him follow up a question! Yes, apparently they do cover NI.

This is why I always put in my details correctly (including email address) but always ALWAYS provide a dud phone number - normally 01234 567890. If I wanted to speak to people I wouldn't be hiding in the relative safety of the internet!

My socially awkward self always answers the phone like a Chinaman if I don't recognise the number, and the caller often gets large amounts of their time wasted before learning some new and interesting swear words.

(99.9% of the time this amounts to Asian scammers pretending they work for BT or O2 etc)

Poor guy has been posting the same stuff on many forums for the last decade.  That must be more soul destroying than getting quotes!

I find it funny (or infuriating, depending on mood) that many websites require you to go through that "Captcha" thing to prove you're not a bot, then when you get on there you find you are having a "chat" with one of their bots!😀

I'm sorry I didn't understand the question

I'm giving your company a follow up call on Monday - fingers crossed!

A lot of insurance stuff doesn’t make sense. I was just renewing my home insurance on line. I noticed that it said 4 occupants, as my kids left home in 2020 I thought I had better alter it to 2 occupants . Premium reduced by 5%.  But if only 2 people live here I thought maybe you could assume that it’s more likely to have no one at home more often and hence higher burglary risk

Yes, but with 4 people, 100% greater risk of 'accidental damage' on contents LOL (It's insurance, of course it doesn't make any sense)

My policy does not include accidental damage. I only have basis cover, defined perils, like fire explosion storm flood burst pipes theft etc. I have worked for many insurance companies and a lot of it defies logic
