Looking to buy 1.0 ecoboost fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’m looking to downgrade from my BMW X5 into a fiesta as I don’t need a large car anymore. I’m interested in the 1.0 ecoboost. Most of the ones available on auto trader in my budget are 90k+ mileage. I’m wondering if these cars are problematic at high mileages and if so how problematic and what kind of issues would be arising. Would I be better off with the 1.25?

Many thanks

Tanz

Just use the forum search facility:

Search: Ecoboost 1.0

or

Search: Wet timing belt.

Get a diesel

Or a Toyota Yaris

From my experience, see if the cambelt has been changed, check the pipe going from the turbo to the hose into the coolant for rust and make sure to listen out for any weird noises in the engine. Idk if id buy one at 90k miles though because you dont know what oil has been used in the past and how regulary which seems to have a big effect on the belt and the deteration can lead to bits of rubber blocking the oil pump. Also a belt change is a grand on this car but I mean if you can somehow get a free engine change like I did go for it lol, ford seem to be fairly genrous with this stuff cause im getting a free turbo too lol

As much as I am passionate about the brand,& I have had many,Capri’s, Escort, Falcons & a GT Mustang (I am in Australia) I would not recommend one of these.Great little cars to drive, it is not worth the grief owning one if the wet belt decides to break.Mine has currently 92,000kms on the odo.If it throws the belt, good bye ‘Freddy’! I won’t waste my time getting it repaired, just not economical. Buy Japanese, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Suzuki or Korean.Stay away from anything manufactured from the VW group! If you want ‘stress’ free ownership, don’t touch a Ecoboost 1.0 Fiesta.

I don't think we have had an Ecoboom belt failure reported on the forum for nearly two whole weeks 🤣

Now you have started it! You watch the ‘failures’ come in!

As Ron says above very enjoyable little car to drive, but I've had mine from new and am mindful of the "cambelt clock" ticking away. Would I buy one at 90k plus with no certainty of 100% verifying the history? No way.

Big change from an X5 - I appreciate the early ones are getting on a bit but would have expected a decent bit of equity to purchase a smaller vehicle. Perhaps the OP could come up with approx budget which may help with suggestions.

+1 for the Yaris. I now have my mums 1 liter which is 20 years old. It has never failed to start 1st time no matter what inclement weather may be engulfing it. It also has been entirely neglected most of it's life, and is still totally reliable!

I've got a 2012 1.0 Ecoboost - only 33k miles on the clock.  Waiting on delivery of the new one which is hopefully on it's way so I don't have the expense of the 10 year service

They are literally ‘bulletproof’,as long they are serviced regularly.Good little cars.

Oh dear, the last 'service' receipt I can find for the car was about 10 years ago LOL

Maybe your Mum used to service it herself. She just popped the bonnet up and did a quick oil and filter change in between getting the Sunday roast and the Yorkshire puddings in the oven 😉

I have a 2014 ecoboost titanium x which i am thinking of swapping. Currently looking at a 2018 renault clio 1.5 dci 110bhp signature. Going diesel as my job has a longer commute and need the fuel economy. Also I don't want the cambelt change cost of over £1000 in approx 2 years time. However saying that sometimes first thing in a morning when engine is cold there is a definite strange noise coming from engine!!!!

Personally if your thinking Fiesta how about just a 1.0 (80bhp) non turbo. not sure what spec they were available in and if there is any for sale.

If you want another manufacturer but you want quality/reliable go japanese but not sure what to recommend as don't know your budget.

Hope this helps

Effectively the normally aspirated 1.0 triple is an ecoboost without the turbo so still has the wet timing belt issue, unfortunately.

Filthy diesel! Ugh!

Excuse me but the Blair government declared that as the fuel of the future! Absolute proof, if any where needed, that governments have no idea of what to run personal transport on. Hence the impending disaster of 'battery' cars... 🤣

and Boris topped that with the 'Boris Bikes' in London which fixed all transport problems overnight 🤣🤣

Hate the things! The sooner they are gone the better.Leave the fuel to the commercial sector.Would not touch one with a ‘barge pole’! Had a deeeesal Qashqai(rental from Hertz) a few years back in the UK.Hated filling the thing up.Disgusting stuff!

What, you mean leave stuff like that to 'free market'? Like all UK governments advocate for? Nope, it'll never happen LOL Besides if/when we eventually achieve 'net zero' all the planets 'global warming' will be solved! Though as we only contribute less than 1% of it, I'm not sure how the math works... 🤣

Make me laugh when people moan about the smell of diesel filling...at least it only has to be done half as often as petrol filling!

I'm still a massive diesel fan...  Tonnes of torque for a smooth & easy drive as well as much better MPG than an equivalent petrol.  If you burrow down into the bowels of the internet, I used to hate them based on nothing more than conditioning...before buying my first in 2011 and never looking back!

First got a diesel in 2007. I much prefer them as per Tom’ comments
