More Mk4 window fun

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

I have a 2019 Mk4 Vignale and about once a month one of the windows will “forget” its one-touch window closing. I’ve tried everything found on here to reset it from within the car, but inevitably I end up using Forscan to reset the window placement which sorts it for a number of weeks.

The fact that it doesn’t break immediately again indicates to me that there isn’t actually anything blocking it, but perhaps it needs a lube somewhere (ooh-er) or maybe the window module is on the fritz. When Forscan’ing I usually don’t get a DTC logged, but most recently I did have one for loss of communication for the drivers and passenger side modules which put all four on the fritz!

Now, I have some 3rd party warranty so I’m half tempted to test the paper its written on and see if they’ll agree to chuck some money at Hendy Ford to see if they have any luck.

Reckon thats a good course of action for someone not hugely mechanically minded?

It might be worth seeing if Ford can update the door modules.

If it's never been done, there should be updates avaialble.

When I had a battery drain fault they did all available updates and one of them was the door modules.

Ah excellent thats good to know, definitely not been done during my ownership and didn’t see anything on service record to indicate that either! I’ll get them to have a look thank you

I'm curious, why, when the car left the factory with working electric windows, would it now need a software update to 'fix' them'?

Because it's not just powering the motor up and down, it's tied to global closing, anti-pinch detection, one-touch, etc.

Those are software algorithms with potentional quirks.

Quite possible Ford have adjusted tolerances, delays, etc in the software after weird issues like this.

As an update, Hendy said they’re so busy I’ll have to wait till 27th which is fine. But as you said @alexp999, the service agent said it’s most likely modules that need looking at, so hopefully easy fix. I’ll feed back after the 27th too.
