Hey guys I proudly owned a 15plate 1.5 ecoboost until recently when at 80+ k miles it started to loose the coolent suspect crack and new engine job. So got rid.

I went to the dark side and got a astra 1.4 150 ps only had it one month and yes new engine required.

So wanting to come back to ford.

But it's a toss up between a 16 plate st-2 and a 19 plate 1.0 125ps similar money and around 30k miles.

My heart saying st but due to current economic situation thinking 1.0 might be better.

Any words of wisdom

Thanks

Luke

I'm not quite following your thoughts. You think it's economically safe to buy an Ecoboost 1.0 ?? 🤔

Surely the tax and running cost of a 1.0 125 ps is cheaper than a 2.0 230ps or what ever it is

I'm sure @unofix is about to say "not if the 1.0 goes boom!"😀

That's my concern I read a few forums about the revised engine but it's a lot of car running at high tolerance to create the figures and move and living in Yorkshire there's a few hills about also. Think I'll use my gut and go for the st but still with out its risks as any second hand car

Given your track record, it sounds like engine reliability should be more of a priority than running costs!

Also tax is £165 on a 2019 1.0, it's no longer done on emissions.  Everything 2017 onwards costs the same.  No more £30 tax means there's really no reason to buy a 125 Focus imo.

Roger I'm shocked at the very idea 🤣

What's an odd few hundred EcoBooms between friends ?

Yeah hoping a 2.0 will last a bit longer than the 1.5 and the awful astra hated from day one 😞

And I think the bus is better than the i10 courtesy car

What your really want is a 2.0 Ecoblue. Does 52.5 MPG just pottering around the doors and 60MPG plus on a run.

Don't really do the mileage to warrant diesel had dpf and egr issues previously due to this

The 1.0 Engine in the Mk4 has a GPF, so it might not be a great Idea if you only do short journeys unless you are able to give it a good run every week or two.
