Wiring in compartment to left of boot space?

Featured Replies

Morning All,

Quick query; is anyone familiar with what the wiring is for that sits (unconnected as far as I can tell) in the cavity space accessed through the little passenger side hatch in the boot space of a 2017 Galaxy? Zetec derivative if that is pertinent?

Cheers!

Sandy

is it for a tow bar

It could be for a number of things, including as Del has said, for the Ford Trailer Module. It could also be for parking sensors and/or reverse camera. Other possibilities may also exist.

I have a tow bar and the electrics for the caravan are attached in that compartment

I think the OP has vanished !!

Attention of @rbrown3 I notice in your photo that you seem to have a poor quality electrical joint in the wiring which is totally uninsulated. It maybe worth checking it out and soldering the joint and insulating with tape.

Morning All, thanks for the replies, really helpful. I have tried to attach a photo below (first attempt, hopefully this works!) that shows a black box of some sort and two sets of cabling, one that seems to have two red connectors currently not attaching to anything and another that has a relatively long coil that seems to terminate in a USB connector. Would either of these tally with any of the possibilities noted above?

All the best,

The little red crimp terminals are not something that are used by Ford. It maybe that the wires are original and the factory fitted plug has been replaced, or far more likely the wires and connectors have been installed by a previous owner.

Again the USB lead is not A Ford original install. It could be that the two wires with the red crimps and the USB lead were used with an aftermarket reverse camera, or a rear facing dashcam. The only easy way to find out is to try and contact the previous owner.

Hmmm, the plot thickens! That's really useful to know, thanks. Previous owner was Addison Lee who I haven't had much luck contacting in the past (previously tried to ask them if they could confirm whether the vehicle had timing belt/water pump done as part of their in house maintenance due to a slightly vague 'belt' related entry in the service history print out but no response that I could prompt unfortunately). As half the black Galaxy Zetec's in the UK must be ex-AL (!), does anyone know if either of those rear facing accessories be 'typical' installs on their part out of interest?

If potentially able to support a reversing camera that could be very helpful - I had looked into getting one fitted when I bought the car last year but all the garages I spoke to said running the wiring was really tricky in the Galaxy so costs were sky-high. Wouldn't it be nice to find it was already potentially there!

Any ideas on the functionality of the FoMoCo 'black box' in there out of interest? Looks like the same thing is fitted behind the wires in rbrown3s photo above I think....?

All the best,

Sandy

Thank you for your observation, it is 3 wires connected to an earth terminal but I have taped them over
