spanner warning light/ powertrain fault

Featured Replies

This is a strange one, anyone else have similar-

my wife was driving in slow traffic, the car then , from what my wife said halted and felt like the hand brake was on , then the warning light appeared,

after a few seconds the car was back driving normally with a spanner light on, the ford app alerted me that there is a 'powertrain fault'

and drove home ok , i went to check the car and all lights and fault alerts disappeared...

any ideas?

Same problem with my Focus yesterday. Have had it for a month. 2nd hand from a main dealer, no problems until yesterday, when the spanner light came on 3 times. Pulled over stopped engine and alarm cleared. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. How have you got on?

Hello. I have a focus mhev 155 since 2021. I know that error. It has happened sometimes to my car. Ford has asked the general office in Germany and still no resolution. What i noticed is that after having an almost stall then 5 min later the "gearbox" "engine failure" as it is mild hybrid "battery problems" "front radar" everything stops working. A quick "restart" which means turning off the car and locking the doors for 10 min everything is fine. In my 18.000km it has happened 5 times in total. There is still no solution for me.

Took my Focus into a Ford garage today. No fault codes were found in the memory, not unexpected as the warning light was no longer on. However the diagnostics that the garage ran did 'highlight' a potential issue with the fuel. The garage reccomend using E5 unleaded in the short term and then reverting to E10 unleaded. If the problem persists there is an upcoming software upgrade which could solve the problem. The explanation has some credibility, I had filled the almost empty tank just before the warning light started coming on, the 1st time that I've done this since owning the car. We shall see how things progress.
