Courtesy Lights

Featured Replies

Am hoping someone can assist with this little problem.

Recently, my 2022 Fiesta's courtesy lights do not come on automatically when I open the door to get in the car. The glovebox light also does not function.

However, when I switch the engine off, the lights do come on as normal and the glovebox compartment light also works.

Any ideas anyone?

2022 Vignale - not sure if that is relevant.

Thank you so much.

You are cover by your warranty, get your Ford dealer to sort it out.

Yes, shall do - just wondering if there was an easy-fix!

Glad it's not just me! Have contacted the garage and hopefully will get it sorted. Thank you.

Oh for the days when you just had to clean the door contact with a bit of emery paper!

Bizarrely, everything has gone back to normal, and lights are working properly. Very strange! Thank you for all the ideas and support.

At a guess I would say that the car is reducing the voltage available to preserve battery charge. Did you drive the car between instances? If so, that may confirm it. Do you do a low mileage? Suggesting that you refer a new car back to the dealer is somewhat stating the obvious, searching for answers on a forum like this deserves a better answer. I am sure you were looking for a simple diagnostic procedure that you could do yourself before going to the time and inconvenience of contacting a dealer.

Hi Chris, in 99% of all cases, owners who have very new cars that are still under manufactures warranty are extremely reluctant to try even the simplest of tests. Hence the reason to 'state the obvious' as you put it.

I have myself spent time explaining to owners how to sort out simple problems only to be given the response 'it's booked in to the dealer'.

Very grateful for all answers regardless of if they're stating the obvious or not! I am not at all technical but would attempt a simple 'fix'. No, I don't do a low mileage, but I do lots of short journeys. It is true to say that it 'fixed itself' after a rare longer outing, so you may well be correct regarding battery usage. I'll see if it does it again, but in the meantime, a big thank you for all the responses 🙂

If you don't already own a digital multimeter I would recommend getting one, (B&Q sell them for £9.95).

Then you can measure the voltage across the battery terminals and get an accurate reading and see what the true State Of Charge (SOC) is. Always check after the vehicle has been parked for at least one hour.  Once the SOC falls below 70% you can expect problems.

Mine are turned ovv via the switch. More than enough light from the laptop thats stuck to the dash and the glare from the puddle lights 🤣

I am having the same problem with the curtesy lights on my fiesta titanium 2022 plate, the where i got the vehicle from as told me this model is not fitted with curtesy lights. Does anyone know if this is correct.

I have a four week old Titanium and it doesn't seem to have footwell courtesy lights, nor a glovebox light, just the overhead ones that come on when the door is opened.

The Vignale model I am sure has footwell lights and a light in the glovebox. The problem has started again for me, so will have to book it in. The lights at the front of the car also do not come on as they would do usually when you press the key fob. It might well be battery-related as someone has suggested. It's a pest for sure! I am sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, Victor, but I am sure someone on here will be able to help.

Facelifted Titanium Vignale and X are specified to have "LED ambient lighting" while the plain Titanium is not.

"Courtesy light – Ambient LED courtesy lighting (single colour), footwell area, door map pockets (footwell only on 3-door)"

My 2022 ST-Line Vignale has footwell lights plus the standard overhead courtesy lights, but no glove box light. They also removed the ambient lighting around the centre console cup holders and the overhead light over the rear passenger seats.

They did quite a lot of cost cutting on the facelift model...shame because the small details do matter.

My 2021 TitaniumX has no glovebox light - in fact my 2018 Titanium had more interior lighting.

TVM strikes again

To be fair, I don't think the Vignale has a glovebox light, and I am getting confused with my older Titanium which I am sure did have one. Car is booked in for Monday, so I shall post an update on what they think the problem might be. It's definitely an intermittent fault, but it will be good to get it sorted!

I have same problem with courtesy lights on my 2023 Fiesta Titanium hybrid....taken back to dealer twice it works for few days then goes again. Does anyone know how other dealers have fixed the problem permanently..they've tried reboot and updates on the system.

Cheers

As has already been said. Your battery is low.

Hi Angela,

Welcome to the club (in both senses). A quick search around the forums will reveal thread after thread on battery charging issues on Mk 8 Fiestas and Mk 4 Focuses.

Effectively all you can do is drive the car more (which is not exactly good for the environment) or invest in, and regularly use, a smart battery charger, as many of us do.

(My courtesy lights rarely work either!😀)
