To be fair, I don't think the Vignale has a glovebox light, and I am getting confused with my older Titanium which I am sure did have one. Car is booked in for Monday, so I shall post an update on what they think the problem might be. It's definitely an intermittent fault, but it will be good to get it sorted!

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life but can I ask whether the problem was resolved and how?  I have the same issue with my 2023 Fiesta ST - interior lights don't come on when you unlock the car (to get into it) and it's dark but they do come on at the end of that journey when you switch the engine off (but they don't then stay on for long).  Many thanks.

I have a similar thread going at the moment. Do you leave anything plugged in overnight? Dash cam etc?

I wonder if something is draining the battery overnight? I have a dash cam that I have started to unplug and now after a few days of the lights not working have started to work again.

Most likely a worn out battery. Do you have a multimeter? Check the battery voltage after the car has been standing overnight. Expect at least 12.4 volts.

Thanks - there is nothing plugged in overnight but I only do short journeys and not every day so it may well be that the battery isn't full charged and so the interior lights are not coming on as a result.  I guess I could always charge the battery (I have a charger) but not sure if I need to disconnect it to charge it or whether it can be done in situ.

I have got a multimeter so I'll give that a go, thanks.  I wouldn't expect a battery to be on the blink when it's less than 2.5 years old but who knows.  I understand vehicles registered post September 1st 2014 have a warranty of 3 years on the battery so there's always that if it is faulty.

🤣🤣🤣

Prepare to be very disappointed. Many of the factory fitted batteries don't even last a full year. Almost all of them fail before they get to 3 years of age.

Checked it today = 11.92 volts - not good.  I'll give it a charge but I'm guessing that will only be a temporary fix.  I should point out that even at at voltage reading, it turns the engine over normally when starting - you certainly wouldn't think anything was up with the battery based on that.

I did say ....

It will take a good 24 hours on charge to get the SOC back to anything over 70% but as you have already said it will only be a temporary fix.

Charging the battery for a MINIMUM of 12 hours will generally sort the issues out for a short while, but the problems will come back.

Ford do not consider the battery to be covered by the warranty, they class it as consumable like wiper blades, brake pads etc. Some people have spent a lot of time and effort  auguring with the dealership and a few have even won. Trouble is they just fit the same rubbish battery again.

The battery should be charged while still fully connected to the vehicle. It is very important that the 'Smart' charger positive lead is connected directly to the battery positive post, and that the negative lead of the 'Smart' charger is connected to the chassis earth point and NOT to the battery terminal. - Failure to do this will mean that the Battery Monitor System (BMS) will not know that the battery has been charged.

With all modern cars, the charging system is designed to put only the bare minimum of charge in to the battery, and in any case only charge it to a maximum of 80% Therefore the need to charge up the battery with a Smart charger every 6 to 7 weeks is quite normal.

So, basically, bite the bullet and get one of these then: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx7027/

I probably do a similar irregular pattern of use to you and just accept that it is going to need a charge now and again. I'd certainly try doing that before buying a new battery (but I am from Yorkshire).

My previous Mk 8 was still starting reliably after 5 years with the original battery, similarly with the current one. The S/S and courtesy lights come and go, but it's not a big deal for me.

Just for fun, I glance regularly at the Toyota Yaris forum where a thread has been running for some years on a similar topic.

It's now run to almost 500 pages and 5,000 posts, so not exclusively a Ford issue by any means.

That's very illuminating, I'm pleased that you were able to shine some light on the problem 🤣

PS. does it show that I'm board tonight ? 😉

I'd just finished watching the documentary "The Covid Contracts" that I'd recorded earlier, and needed something boring to calm me down after that!😀
