Bonnet release

Featured Replies

After some help and pointing in the right direction, please.

m Focus ST-Line 2019

Thought I would check levels and top up washer today but the bonnet release isn’t working. There’s no tension in it and just moves without any release. I have attempted to remove the trim to enquire further but I can’t remove the actual release handle. Tried all sorts and sure there’s a simple technique. If I try anymore force I think it will snap!

Have you removed the little retaining clip from the handle before you tried to pull it off ?

No that’s the issue. I couldn’t see the clip. Although it wasn’t the best light. Having looked at some other threads, I will hopefully have more luck today

I have the same issue on same model/year of car; was there a work around - am looking to replace myself as Ford have quoted £180 ‘for a diagnostic check’ (I know what’s wrong with it!) ………

video's why they fail on youtube

long screw driver to force the naff mechanism half back together to get it to release (don't break damage or remove the grill its a lie)

lies about relocating the stupid plastic tamper bit are a waste of time

repair kit in stock at main dealer for 60 quid

top mod is to buy the internal release kit for a mk4 mondeo and retrofit a catch worth having

That 1st video is the exact one I used to construct my own replacement lock - the process worked perfectly (until the lock itself failed again a few months later LOL)

Can I just point out that the OP's car already has an internal release. It's a 2019 ST-line.

very good point - didn't spot that - when will this forum wake up and put totally different cars in their own forum?

pretty much the only link between a mk1, mk2, mk3 and a mk4 is the ford badge - we'd be better off mixing age groups of fiesta focus and mondeos ....

have a read of this

You have to pull the handle off and turn the mechanism.

Poor design, thanks Ford

Apologies for the delay in posting - however, the issue was solved very simply (not by me though) …..called Halfords and for a £45 diagnostic fee (not £180 quoted by the dealer that has the maintenance plan on the car) it was found the fixings were loose and required a clean up and some lubrication. Only charged me the dio fee  and nothing else ………I don’t have a ramp/pit to get access etc so no way of sorting myself BUT this is the answer to my particular issue/model 🤙🏻
