2008 Ford focus estate diesel fuel additive help please!

Featured Replies

Hey fellow focus owners.
I am hoping someone else has had the same issues as me and is able to shed some light as I am a bit lost here.
I have an issue with my Ford focus, it is currently in limp mode with the following fault codes;

P2458

P2584

P2585

P242F

I have taken it to my usual mechanic and he has said that fuel additive needs to be added and a couple other things, the main issue is the actual additive for the fuel additive tank. The only place I have come across so far is Ford who sell this additive, who have said it will cost £500 inc vat for just the additive, nothing else. I know going to main dealers are expensive anyway and I was just hoping that someone may possibly know what the additive is called, so I can google any cheaper versions, or if anyone has found a more affordable one and been successful in using it. I hope it all makes sense and if it doesn’t please let me know and I can reword it better.
thank you. Rosa 🙂

This doesn't sound right at all . More details please. What is this magic additive called?

sounds like eloys fluid ..

What engine size? 1.6 or 1.8 or 2.0 ,    If 1.6 , what bhp is it?  Will be about 90 or 115 bhp.

But not for £500 for just the fluid!

I’m not sure what the magic fluid is called, that’s why I was seeing if anyone here had the same issues and what it was called so I could try and find cheaper alternatives not from a Ford garage. I explained what happened and gave the error codes and they told me I needed fluid, told me the product code I needed (which I can give you if that helps).
it is a 1.6 , 107bhp.

If you look at the link I sent on my post above, you will see that the additive is readily available for about £30 a litre on ebay, and probably Amazon as well. (It's called Eolys Fluid.) Local motor factors would be likely to sell it as well.

I don't know how much you would need but I guess two litres would be plenty.

Any mechanic worth their salt should be able to fill the tank for you (see the two videos attached to other peoples posts), but the car will probably need to go onto a diagnostic computer to reset the car's computer so that it knows the fluid has been refilled.

It's also known as 'PAT' fluid.  pat fluid for sale | eBay

The tank holds 2 litres, but you really only need 1 litre unless you're expecting the car to last for another 15 years.

Thanks for that, my recently bought C Max (1560cc Peugeot engine) probably has this system, being Euro 5 despite being a 65 plate (no ad-blue either).

I haven't been under to check for the tank yet, I'm getting much too old to scrabble about under cars in the cold weather!

Those video's posted by @unofix were useful for me, am I correct in thinking the car's computer needs resetting after filling the Eolys tank?

Yes, you will need to use FORScan to reset the system.

Ford gave up on the additive system around 2010.  The later cars use a coated DPF that requires no maintenance and will (usually!) last the lifetime of the car.
