The black antenna was just a model year change at some point. Probably saved ford a few pennies not having to keep an inventory for different colours. They are all built like that now. 

Or not properly connected, which is  another possibility. Another is that it has been replaced with a non DAB antenna as not all cars AFAIK (Where's Unofix when you need 'im?) have DAB

Just downloaded the zip, took about 8 mins. Now to find a nice trip out to install it!

I have auto-updates set, and in the past it has updated over the air, it is probably doing this now but seems to take ages (weeks).

I thought an update was due as the nav had developed a stammer lat weekend which normally indicates it is updating!!!

Mine updated in 18 mins. Sat in the driveway with the engine running so no need for a long drive if you don’t want 😉

Have tried to update mine twice using different USB sticks formatted Ex-Fat and both times car has loaded and indicated it has installed and checking 'about sync' on screen it says 22200 installed. When I try to enter xml file to Ford sync update site I get the following.

 

 

error on line 66 at column 28: PCDATA invalid Char value 11

If I use the 'How to troubleshoot Sync update issues' the Sync screen comes up with PKG_ERR04.

Anyone with a way round this problem. Don't want to go the CyanLabs way yet car is only a week old

The update must be installed fine if the about page says 22200, it's only the log file you are having an issue with.

Try the log troubleshooting steps here, no need to reinstall the update:

Mentioned that in my quetion. Result threw up PKG_ERR04 in red on the Sync screen. I agree with you it must have udated and everything seems to be working fine. Problem is how will Ford know how to update me when next update comes out if I haven't notified them of this update?

Try this. Extract the NU5T-14G381-AA update to your USB drive.

Now overwrite just the autoinstall.lst file from the Interrogator_AB package from the troubleshooting page, open it with notepad and change this line:

Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz

to

Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AD.tar.gz

So you are just changing the last letter from B to D.

That will just run the XML generator, but it's the newer version from the update package.

If the Ford site still won't accept the XML, try doing it from a different browser.

Interesting…just noticed my car trying to auto download this update:

However, when I log into the Ford web site, it says my car needs an update but when I click download, it tries to download the old file I only just used to update the car last week…

It also still shows my car as running version 3.4.20136 on the side bar under ‘SYNC Current Version’.

So clearly there is no sync between the car and the web site…I would hazard a guess the site is only updated once it’s visited a Ford dealer…?! Or possible if you download the Ford app and allow Ford to track you (and see you going to the loo and what you are eating for dinner…!). Either way, it means I can’t now get the latest update which is rubbish and a massive flaw in the system 🙄

So…that would be good but I just deleted the file they need from the update on the usb drive I used so I had a clean root location to download the newer update! No what do I do?!?

Just figured it…what a mess! They don’t make it obvious how to find the log file tool but managed to get it eventually! Their instructions didn’t work so having to extract the original file back to the usb along with the log file tool in order to get a new log file to THEN upload back to Ford. What a joke.

The file your car is trying to download is part of the F11 maps.

Ok. So the latest maps update. Good. It’s a 22gb file…jeez. Any way I can install just the GB maps? Just found a similar conversation on another forum and it appears it can be done but wasn’t clear. Ford download only has the option to download the whole 22gb file. 

I don’t want the install to take hours so would rather just install what I need.

Also, do you have to sit with the engine running like the Sync update? Don’t fancy a sat eve in the car!!!

If you have automatic updates turned on and connected to WiFi you don’t need to upload the xml it should do it itself. 
 

The f11 map update is about a dozen files. 22gb ish total. 
 

If you check the website now does it offer the map update for usb install? It would be quicker (can still take 2 hrs) but Wi-Fi will take days and may never complete due to battery saving.

Yeah I’m downloading the USB install. If it takes two hours to install though, can I set it off and lock the car and go indoors? Seems crazy to have to sit in the car for two hours or leave it running for that time. I don’t do long journeys so would never get it done otherwise. 

Just found on another forum someone saying you don’t have to have the engine running the whole time during update and if it stops updating when you exit the car, it will continue where it left off on the next journey. Just have the leave the USB in place.

I just installed that latest version yesterday on my Focus and nothing changed at all, menu remains the same boring one...

It took me about 25 minutes to complete the installation and after a small reboot to the sync (did it itself) everything was done.

In a small 30minute trip of yours just do it. It is nothing.
