MK2 Focus 2010

Anyone able to tell me the cause of the following?

Power Steering Malfunction warning light comes on

ESP flashes on and off along with every other dashboard warning

Car seems to lose power during these incidents and all headlights turning on and off or dimming while in use back wipers occasionally come on by themselves also

Battery light is on when starting the car but it has no problems starting and have been told it could be alternator

Can hear a clicking aswell in fuse box in the passenger side footwell when turning on lights that have blown

Any ideas on what it could be and how much?

Start with the most common cause of all those problems.

Check your car battery, and also the battery cables. A low or failing battery will cause the faults you have.

If the battery voltage is 12.32 or better, then you can cross the battery off the list of possible causes.

Next most probable cause will be the instrument cluster. The solder joints are starting to fail, which is very often the case on a 2010 Focus. The IC can be refurbished for about £90.

@StephenFord knows a place in Ireland that services them.

You can try giving the dash a thump above the instrument cluster; if it affects the symptoms that that's a very strong indicator that it's the common IC solder issue.

If it is the common IC solder issue, then please consider my own personal service for this. You can find the link below. I'm charging £45 plus postage.

OP is in Cork, Southern Ireland. It will involve export paperwork and then import duty for him to get it back from you.

Oh, right, I noticed the location, but hadn't considered that stuff. 😒

I just got my cluster repaired a couple of weeks ago, every 'electrical' gremlin I suffered instantly disappeared. To keep the repair on the island, can highly recommend Hobsons, quick same day turnaround, depending when they get it.

This is the thread following the repair of cluster.
