How is handling on Focus mk4.5 Titanium?

Featured Replies

So I have a chance to take a 2022 mk4.5 Focus Titanium X 1.0 125pk mHEV hatchback with 16 inch wheels. Most of the reviews and positive feedback on handling and driving are usually done on ST-Line model. Curious how does non-ST-Line feel in terms of driving considering it's less sporty setup? Is it still good and fun in the corners?

I had a low spec MK3.5 Focus before which I really enjoyed, but I see now that this mk4.5 wouldn't even have multi link suspension which was on the old Focus. Would be pretty sad if mk4.5 would handle worse than mk3.5, or is that not the case?

Currently I drive Fiesta mk8 Titanium, and wonder if it's a nice upgrade into this Focus Titanium X as far as driving dynamics goes. Would be paying around 150£ per month extra compared to Fiesta.

The ST-Line doesn't have multi-link either.

Are you sure Titanium X is only 16"?  I had a pre-facelift Mk4 TitX which had the 17" multispoke wheels as standard.  I haven't kept up with facelift specs though.

Both my Mk4s have been multi-link ('68 plate 1.5t & 21 plate Active Vignale) so I can't comment on twist beam comfort.

Good one about ST-Line, totally forgot! But at least it's stiffer (?) and lower suspension so helps with cornering. And, I am sure it will be 16" in my case. Shame because it really takes away from the looks of this car.

I believe so, but I've never owned a Focus ST, only driven one on a 15 minute test drive. So I'm not the ideal person to judge this, but I really enjoy the handling, on corners and in general, of my Mk 4.5 Titanium.

I'm biased somewhat, as I'm not a fan of the ST. I prefer the gentler ride of the Titanium on British roads. I've been surprised in recent years how many manufacturers have gone down the route of having most of the models in each range as fairly or very sporty. On British roads? But clearly there's a demand. But they're certainly not for me.

Pretty sure the ST and ST Line have very different suspension etc. As for twist beam , Ford insist drivers would not know the difference between that and multi link. If that’s the case why was it discontinued from the whole range bar the mk4 Vignale ? Also I read Ford Australia reintroduced it in higher spec focus , I assume now it’ll be the 155 mh and maybe the remaining diesel (?)

Ford independent suspension had a very good reputation too.
Shame

But if you genuinely cannot tell the difference then …..  can’t really complain. 🧐
