Ford Focus zetec possible electrics issues

Featured Replies

2006 Ford Focus zetec climate. Had no problems with the car at all until this week.  Turned the engine on the other evening and now I have a whole host of electrical issues. The indicators work but don’t have the ticking inside the car. The hazards working but again no ticking inside the car. The hand break warning light is on permanently. The central locking via the remote key or turning the key in the door has stopped locking BUT does unlock all the doors. (Except the boot). The inside light stays on to say a door is open but isn’t. What on earth is happening. We checked and tested all the fuses and they are fine. Any ideas?

Quick answer for now from me.... others on this forum are more knowledgeable than I am.

Firstly check that your battery is fully charged.

If that doesn't cure it I would suspect the GEM which controls all the things you mention.  (Google is your friend).

The car battery? I’ll give that a try, it was a brand new battery last year. Will check that in the morning. Thanks. Any more ideas from anyone else would also be welcome thank you

Yeah primary suspect I'd have in mind in this case would be the GEM (passenger footwell fusebox). Check it for corroded wiring pins.

Water ingress to the GEM would be my diagnosis.

We did check them fuse box and made sure each fuse had a reaction from the fuse tester, we replaced one fuse. I’ll have another look for water corrosion or lose wires

Remove the GEM, disconnect the battery first.

Look at the connector pins, if any of them have green fur on them then you have water ingress damage.

You will need to source and programme a replacement GEM and fit to the vehicle and then find and stop the leak or protect the GEM from water or it will happen again
