A couple of quick questions please?

Featured Replies

Hi,

i need a new battery for my mk8 68’plate fiesta. I’ve read through the other threads on here and understand it’s not that straight forward and a lot of people just went back to ford for them to do. I’ve just been quoted £228 for the battery. And the labour will be on top of that. I’m not paying the equivalent of a full service just to change a battery.

So my questions are please:-

1. Can anyone tell me which battery they’ve used in their car please?
2. My battery height is 175cm, when I put my reg into websites it says I need a 190cm.
3. Do I really need to have forscan/diagonals tic machine to swap battery? For the battery monitoring system?

Photo is my current battery (i want a like for like swap)

think that’s it for the time being.
thanks for any light you could spread!

Varta make the Ford batteries, but anything from Bosch, Varta or Yuasa are good.

I put a Yuasa in mine as it had a slightly higher Ah rating (for my battery size)

Thank you for your replies Alex. Is a higher AH rating the better option? What benefit does it have?

A higher capacity, you don't want it too different as the BMS is expecting a certain capacity, but a small amount is fine, just means it can last a bit longer.

I’m looking at the Varta one, it’s 65ah? Sound about right?
Thanks again for your help.

You might just get the stop/start working again for a few months.

Yeah all the aftermarket EFB 100 batteries are generally 65Ah. Ford must cheap out on their spec with only 60Ah at the same size.

I have come across this before where some manufacturers/retailers measure to the top of the plastic case and some to the top of the terminals, so that MIGHT explain the difference.

Isn't the answer in the OP's picture to begin with ?

The info is on the sticker that's attached to the battery  or am I missing something 🤔

It says EFB, but the size code 100 isn’t mentioned. Just ford unique part numbers.

Brilliant thank you

Hi everyone,

thought I’d report back, the battery I plumped for was the Varta one off Alex’s list. D54 Varta Start-Stop EFB Car Battery 12V 65Ah (565500065) Type 100. To be precise.

it was slightly longer than my original one (as were all in the list) and unfortunately had to hack saw off a tiny corner of the black plastic of the battery holder in order to get the positive terminal red plastic back on.
then used the video provided by unofix to reset the BMS.

Start stop back working and car running really well.

It does seem that buying a perfect fitting battery for the mk8 fiesta isn’t a walk in the park, but having saved my self £££ by not going to ford I’m happy!

Thank you again to all who contributed.

have a good Easter

I'm in the same situation as this old post. If I buy a new battery does it mean I'll have to chip some plastic away to get it to fit?
