Battery Charging

Featured Replies

I have 2019 Focus when I go out for long run 2 hours the battery never seems to charge properly it only reads about 60% charged and I leave it about an hour before checking it’s charging at 14.6 volts battery had been checked ands it’s ok anybody got any ideas

On a 2019 Focus the battery is coming to the end of it's life. [Ask me how I know?]

Unless you have used FORScan to change the SOC from the factory default of 80% to a more sensible 95% then your battery is always going to be low on charge but they are designed like that all in the name of emissions.

Contrary to popular belief modern cars with smart charging systems take only 7 to 10 miles to reach the set SOC (normally 80%) after that you could drive to the moon and back and it would still make no difference to how well the battery is charged.

I've altered mine to 95% charge (wasn't too sure about going for 100%) and this keeps things ticking over nicely.

I’m not convinced this makes a big difference. Battery age seems to play a bigger factor.

Soc has been changed to 95% go out for a long run only ever charges up to 50 or 60% had a new battery about 2 years ago had battery tested in march again garage said it was ok

Ok just means it has enough CCA for the starter motor, not enough for the car to engage stop start.

It's honestly not worth worrying about stop start, any fuel saving is outweighed by having to change the battery every 2 years to keep it going.

Now, where's your nice little diagram showing the SOC v voltage? LOL

Specially requested by Stephen 😀

Now all we need is the recommendation of a good Smart battery charger and we're sorted 🤣

I keep my Focus on a battery tender, Optimate 6, in the winter when it is parked in my drive to keep the battery charged as I don't drive it every day. I think it charges it to 100%, so when I do drive it the alternator doesn't have much to do. Doesn't need it so much in the warmer months.

I'm guessing that's resting voltage? Ie car not turned on? Mine is at 12v on the multimeter when I tested it a few weeks ago, may be worth me checking it again...

Yep...

I am asking for names, and model details - will be sending a full list to Ford Europe asking them to look into this global issue surrounding this model of car.

Please can all affected owners take a look?
