New key.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

I think I may need a new key. I have changed the battery in the existing one bit it takes forever to lock the car and then press again for deadlocking or whatever the second press is for.

Please can you let me know how difficult it is to get a new key and then program it to the car.

Fiesta Mk6.

As ever, apologies if this is elsewhere. I did do a search but nothing came up.

Someone has to pitch in with a Newquay 😂 but any help/advice will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Mikey.

All of our stores can replace the blade, buttons and casing of basic and chipped vehicle keys. Most keys can be supplied on the same day, along with our range of other key-cutting services.

For vehicle keys with remote control, enter your car model or reg plate to find nearby shops that can cut & program replacements. We’ll show you prices for the branded, non-branded and universal car keys we offer, and then contact you to arrange an appointment in-store!

Do you @Tiexen work for Timpson's ?

it's just that I can't see anything in your profile to say you are a commercial vendor.

It's not difficult for your 2004 model as I'm sure @StephenFord will be happy to confirm. He's just done the exact same job himself and with no previous experience.

But don't buy a key from Ebay and expect Timpsons to cut the blade, they won't touch it with a barge pole! But they'll be only too delighted to charge a 3 figure sum for one of their own...

Now, this instruction is for the 'Focus', I'm unsure if the procedure is the same for a Fiesta...

No I don't work for Timpsons and sorry if mentioning them upsets you.

It wasn't 'upsetting', but just disappointing as my own personal experience of trying to use them has put me off for life. I'm sure they're great for re-heeling a nice pair of brogues! But for any 'key' work I would recommend a decent local independant locksmith.

It's not that it upsets me in anyway, but both the prices that Timpsons charge (well over £100) for a a new remote key and also the way that they create them, by cloning an existing key is not something that would ever lead me to recommend them for car keys.

This is what their price menu suggests for my 2005 car.

Interesting to note that my 'bonnet' key (non remote, using a replacement Ford lock) would cost £79. I actually paid £10 at my local key cutter for a spare!

I knew they were ripoff merchants but I'd know idea that the prices were that crazy. To think £232 for an allegedly genuine Ford key which they still then clone rather that programme the car.

Just checked my Golf (2012 MK6 - basic old fashioned flip key, not keyless proximity) - £399!

Edit - Mk4 Focus key - keyless entry and start - £232.  Either their pricing is wrong, or the database hasn't been setup correctly!

I think Timpsons are £232 for our car. The isn’t worth that much!

I’ll keep digging and see what I can find.

Please think about nipping in to a local locksmith, one near to me just wanted £50 for a fully programmed (NOT simply a clone key) remote operated fob. There are many decent retailers out there...

Nice one, thank you for the tip.

I will let you know how I get on.

Update…….

So I try a local locksmith, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I thought eBay or Ford themselves!!!!!

£30 to £40 repair and or refurb £90 brand new cut key with 3 buttons. The same as the original but without the Ford logo. Result.

Thank you for all your help. Nice one.

Mikey.
