Ford focus (08/2008) metal sound

Featured Replies

Hello,

Over the past few months i hear a metal sound when i start engine especially in the morning where the engine is not warmed up. Sound remains for a while while during driving i barely hear it.

I have taken a few videos to check:

1. https://youtu.be/LbXLkfvXb1U

2. https://youtube.com/shorts/NAmDurwvZKE?feature=share

3. https://youtube.com/shorts/boGfytdMw9M?feature=share

4. https://youtube.com/shorts/_UmJ4G_qJj4?feature=share

Mechanics said that it is the "Power steering pump" which seemed really weird to me as this sound was coming also without touching the steering wheel at all. Anyway he changed that but the sound is still there. Car has around 179k km and it got changed the "camshaft belt" at ~120k km so probably it's not that either.

Thoughts?

Thanks.  It matters very much.  So it's a petrol 1.6 Ti-VCT.

First thing I was going to suggest would be removing the auxillary belt and run the engine without to see if the noise disappears.  Unfortunately the belt isn't as easy to remove on the petrols as on the diesels.  So it's up to you if you wish to try that.

Do you know exactly which oil is in the engine?  5w30?

Yeah, I know what 'should' be in it.  I'm just wondering if the wrong oil has been put in, something that's too thick when cold.
