Proximity Sensors Go Crazy When I Go Into Reverse

Featured Replies

Whenever I put my 2018 MK4 Vignale into reverse, I get loads of beeps from random proximity sensors on the vehicle. The more steering lock I give it, the worse it gets.

When it first started, it was only now and then, but it has got progressively worse, and happens every time now.

Any help as to the cause of the issue and a possible remedy would be gratefully received.

It's called "Panic Mode"

The car has seen the way you reverse before 🤣

Easiest place to start is giving the sensors a clean.  If they're dirty, or even covered with wax from a carwash, that can affect them.

That was the first thing I did.

Ok, you could have mentioned that in the first post.

Next step would be to look for the parking module and check that it's not getting damp (in the boot iirc) and that the plugs are tight.

Is it always the same sensors going off or totally random, any sensor front or rear?

OK, I'll check that out.  It is totally random I think.  Can't say I have noticed a sequence or uniformity of them going off.

Can you get access to the rear of the bumper from the floor and unplug them all, try plugging them back in sequentially to see what results you get?

Does it show on the Sync display which one is detecting an object?

Sides, front and rear. Multiple areas at the same time.
