focus mk4 F11 map update - engine on tickover 2.5 hours !

Featured Replies

hi

every time i try to upload from usb , the cars computer shuts off the power

do i really need to keep the car engine running for 2.5 hours  !!!

The good news is it won't take 2.5 hours 👍

The bad news is it takes about 90 minutes.

You can't even just leave the engine idling because after 20 minutes of no detected activity (driver is missing from car) the engine will automatically switch off and power down the ignition.

The answer that many of use is to just leave the USB plugged in and drive and use the car as normal. Each time you use the car it will load a few more files from the pen drive across to the Sync3 system. Each time you switch off any incomplete file loaded is simply cancelled and the system will try again next time. Using this method may take a few days of normal use but eventually it will complete.

A work of caution. ignore warnings asking you to do key cycles, and also a message that kind of implies that it has finished. When it truly has finished you will get a very clear instruction to remove the USB.

ah! had tried for days letting it capture stuff from wifi .. BEJ..GZ but it seemed to not move on. maybe your idea of leaving the usb in will work. thanks

yes this is a common complaint, there is no progress bar to give any clue as to how far things are progressing.

Just be very patient and it will eventually load from the USB.

not seen any evidence of it doing anything ?

if i take out usb before i use car in morning & reinsert , it doesnt say its going to get files

but now if i voice request "enter an address" replies with "this feature is not available , please update your device" !?

I've got a related question - I updated the system software a couple of months ago and recently it said that a map update was now also available. I've downloaded the map update to USB (only two, very small files) and installed it in my car, which took less than 5 minutes. It's saved the confirmation .xml file to my USB but after I upload this file to the Sync site, it still says that map updates are available (which when downloaded, are the same as the ones I've already installed). Any ideas?

Same for me. Is there a fix?
