Ford Focus 2008 TCDI 2.0: oil leaks + engine fault light

Featured Replies

Hi all. I bought a second hand Ford Focus 2008 TCDI 2.0L manual transmission car. It has about 200,000 km on the clock.

It has a number of issues, namely:

1. Oil leaking from the engine. The official Ford Service Centre says there may be more than one source of the leak(s), and they suggest to start at the "top" of the engine, find/fix any leak, then wait and see, then come back if the leak continues. I'm a native English speaker in a non-English speaking country so this is what I could glean from Google Translate. So far I haven't paid the Service Centre to fix this issue; they too warned I may spend a lot of money on what is an old car, and still not fix the problem. They said that the issue is not a safety risk, as long as I keep an eye on the oil levels and top it up as needed.

Pictures of the undercarriage of the car are attached.

2. Engine Systems Fault light intermittently comes on. It seems to especially happen first thing in the morning when I start the car. Turning the engine off/on fixes the problem, usually for the day. Driving with the Engine Systems Fault light results in sluggish behaviour of the car and slow acceleration. Before I knew the turn off/turn on fix, I drove with the light on for about half an hour, and the car completely shut down while it was moving! Fortunately it was just before a red traffic light so other cars were slowing down as well. The Service Centre checked this issue but the problem recurred the next day, and still recurs.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix these problems once and for all?
