Now down to only one working speaker...

Featured Replies

Both my rear speakers stopped working a few years back (doesn't bother me at all), but yesterday my drivers side speaker gave up. I just want a set of the cheapest available, but would love confirmation of the size I need to buy. Online, everything from 6" to 6.75" are listed for the Focus. Anyone tell me the definitive size I need?

They aren't a standard size.  6.5" round is the closest but you'll need adapters if buying aftermarket.

I've seen a couple of YouTubes where the original Ford speaker is simply cut out with a 'stanley' blade, and the replacement simply self tapped into the Ford mounting ring. I'm sure there may be a little leeway in doing that?

We must have different ideas of 'simply'...  I hadn't seen it done that way before but I don't like to destroy parts anyway lol.  Does look like there's at least 1/4" leeway compared to the speakers he's fitting.

Must admit I'm not a fan of destruction like that either, but as the speaker doesn't work as it is, may as well use it as a mounting bracket, I think it's served well after 18 years...

They will double the value of the car, make sure to use the Disklok 🤣

Well, I'll have to dump them, on trying to buy, postage leaps up to £10 rather than FREE as listed!

Am now looking at some JVC ones, which appear to offer proper FREE P&P LOL

The JVC speakers look good value (not sure about the box 🤣)

Are you going to splash out and do the rear speakers ?

Did think about it, but no, to be fair, my days of listening to bangin' tunes are many decades old now. My very first mod on my 1970s Datsun 120y was to install a Pioneer head unit, with matching graphic equaliser, and 4 x Pioneer speakers. I still remember the 1st cassette I put in, Neil Diamond, The Jazz Singer - now, those were proper bangin' tunes LOL

Sadly, this too shoved a £10 postage on listing when I log in. Many sellers state FREE UK p&p, not knowing that the UK consists of 4 countries, England, Scotland , Wales AND NI! They don't know what Great Britain is which is what listing should state! It's very irritating the lack of knowledge 😕

(To determine postage to NI, simply go to any Ebay listing 'postage, see details' instructions and enter an NI postcode, all start with BT)

do you have any scrapyards local you could raid ???????? find a Ghia spec as had better quality speakers fitted allegedly.

Given my recent NI courier issues, I suspect this depends on which courier they use or the eBay postage system rather than an individual 'choice' that the seller is making.

Somehow I recently had 3 buyers from overseas buying items with free postage - I'm still not entirely sure how I allowed that when posting the adverts!  As they were all high value items without much local demand I just accepted it and absorbed the extra cost myself.  But will have to be more careful when posting ads in future.

If they're similar to the MK6 Fiesta they'll be 5"x7" speakers.

MK3 Mondeos had a premium speaker variant which I'm running in my Fiesta, but I believe 6.5" are the accepted size with an adapter.
