Parasitic battery drain - focus mk2.5 2010

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a parasitic drain on my battery of around 120ma, this is measured after the car has been locked for about an hour.

I first pulled the 2 fuses in the engine bay fusebox that are for the fusebox in the passenger foot-well, and that removed the drain. So I tried the voltage test on the internal fusebox fuses, but didn't find anything obvious. I then started pulling the fuses out one by one, until there were none left (I also pulled the relay out) I still had the drain though.

I then pulled all the connectors off the fusebox and the drain once again disappeared.

So, would I be correct in thinking that there is a fault somewhere in that fusebox (circuit board perhaps?) or is there possibly some wiring that passes through the box that isn't fused in there (seems unlikely) and leads onto a fault elsewhere.

The normal standby current draw is around 80mA on your car so what your looking for is a current drain of 40mA which is about what the light in the glovebox takes. Check also that the light in the luggage compartment is also out.

Thanks for the reply.

Isn't the glovebox light on one of the fused circuits through the internal fusebox? I've pulled all of the fuses out.

The passenger compartment fuesbox is also the GEM or BCM (depending on model year). It is a power handling computer. Many circuits in your car are not fused and are purely controlled by the Body Control Module. For example circuits like brake lights, dipped beam headlights (but not the main beam), cigar/cigarette power sockets, interior lights are normally directly powered by the BCM and these circuits do not have fuses as they are electronically protected. Each model is different and so without checking a full schematic diagram it would be impossible to give an exact answer for your car.

OK, thanks for the info.

The battery is flat at the moment so I can't check the light, pretty sure I have already done that though.
