2007 Ford Focus display not reading right -please help

Featured Replies

My display has suddenly jumped from reading mileage, temperature, miles to empty to some code.
it is reading at the moment

                        SLM 40

80.       CÑ41.          0

I can change what seems like the language but it’s all nonsense and codes. all gauges are working but I don’t know what’s happened.
I can’t see my mileage. I can’t see anything I understand and I can’t figure out how to change it back.

does anyone know why this has come up and how do I get it back to normal please. Thank you. Liz

You're probably suffering from the common cracker solder joint problem. Random undecipherable display output like that will be because there's something interfering with electrical communication. It's impossible to do anything other than speculate where exactly the failure is occurring, except almost certainly within the instrument cluster unit itself, but cracking on the main wiring connector solder joints due to a manufacturing weakness is a very common problem affecting units of your vintage, and this is most likely responsible.

I happen to provide my own ebay-based repair service for this cracked solder joint issue. I'd be happy to fix it for you if you like. You can find the link below. I cannot promise that the display has not become faulty itself though, which would add a tricky and surprisingly expensive complication, but we're not going to know whether or not that's the case until we try fixing the solder joints and then see what the result is.

Please ignore the fact that my ebay listing says I have no test equipment, I need to update it. I do now have a power supply with which I can power on the units, so I should be able to see if the display is behaving itself again after repairing the cracked joints. That is, if you choose to use my own service of course.

Not displaying on phone?

Edit - could it be Pop up blocker?

Ah !! 🤔

The phone app often just doesn't show stuff, or makes it difficult.

Oh, wierd, yeah that's it, but it seems that the phone app is creating some sort of ad, whereas I'd just given a plain text-based link.

Edit: Or rather that is to say that's one of them, there's the 'cheap' service and the standard 'quality' service.

Must be Google Chrome extension or something?
